Abstract: |
Li-PO batteries are excellent devices because they can deliver high current, maintain a small package and are rechargeable. There is however a drawback to these batteries, damage can occur if they discharge too much energy, an in turn, no longer useable.
With an Intersil ICL7665S Over/Under Voltage Detector, we are able to prevent over-discharge of the batteries with resistors setting the voltage at which to stop supplying power. If we use Microbridge Rejustors in place of the resistors, it is possible to set the resistance values so the maximum amount of time is used with the batteries and still prevent damage. In a hobby situation this may mean a few extra minutes, but in a military standpoint, an extra five minutes can mean everything.
