Title: |
Using rejustor-based gyrators to simulate inductors |
|
Abstract: |
Although inductors are useful in several applications such as audio, telephony, RF, and power supplies, they can be unwieldy devices. Physical size, cost, and commercial availability are common concerns. In other cases, a large associated series resistance and susceptibility to electromagnetic noise can restrict a wider use of inductors.
Those limitations can be addressed by the gyrator, a simple electronic circuit containing capacitors, resistors, and operational amplifiers that can simulate high inductance values. However, it is difficult to obtain a reasonable inductance accuracy, as manual adjustments usually fall short or are too cumbersome.
This design describes a 60Hz notch filter where a rejustor-based gyrator simulates a very large inductor. The unique features of the rejustor enables a low-cost solution that is small and easy to calibrate to a high degree of accuracy. |
